Electric car registrations just hit astronomical heights, coming within touching distance of six figures in a single plate change month.
Data from New AutoMotive shows 99,827 battery electric cars took to the roads in September, surging 37.5 percent compared to the same month last year and claiming more than 28 percent of the total market. That puts year to date electric registrations at over 469,000 vehicles.
Drivers and fleet managers are voting with their wallets. With forecourt diesel touching two pounds a litre, the business case for swapping expensive fossil fuels for overnight smart charging has never been clearer.
Industry leaders across charging and leasing agree that this kills off the tired idea that motorists do not want electric cars. The appetite is undeniable, and the numbers prove Britain is picking up speed.
What did The EV Café say?
“People now have seen these vehicles on the road and people saving lots of money driving them.”

“I want us to focus on the used value of the cars as well, because if we get the used market wrong, we won't sustain that continued growth in the new market.”
