New research from JATO Dynamics reveals the slow pace of electrification in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) market, and the scale of the challenge facing manufacturers under the UK’s ZEV mandate.
The numbers:
In 2025, the ZEV mandate required 16% of manufacturers’ new LCV sales to be zero‑emission.
But JATO found:
Ford and Renault were 9 percentage points below the target
Mercedes‑Benz: 92% of new van sales were still combustion
Major OEMs, VW Group, Stellantis, Hyundai, BMW, Ford, Renault, relied on offsetting mechanisms to avoid penalties
Toyota Group and Nissan face estimated penalties of £113m and $119.6m respectively
