While cars are breaking records…vans are telling a very different story.
Demand for new electric vans is currently well below government targets, with uptake sitting at just a fraction of where it needs to be.
Why? It’s the usual suspects, but they matter more in vans:
- Higher upfront costs
- Payload and range concerns
- Operational complexity for businesses
And unlike cars, van buyers are making purely commercial decisions. If it doesn’t stack up operationally, it simply doesn’t get bought.
The EV Café takeaway
The van market is where the real-world transition gets tested, and right now, the system isn’t quite supporting it enough.
“Vans are where the rubber really hits the road for electrification.” Sarah Sloman
“If it doesn’t work for the business, it doesn’t matter how good it looks on paper.” Sam Clark
