A major consumer survey commissioned by ChargeUK and conducted by YouGov indicates that leveling the price gap between public EV charging and traditional forecourt fuels could trigger a massive 50% surge in consumer adoption.
The findings show that consumer intent to purchase an electric vehicle leaps from 25% to 37% if public charging costs are brought below petrol prices. ChargeUK is leveraging this data to urge policymakers to use the current public charging cost review to dismantle structural cost drivers—such as the persistent VAT disparity between home tariffs and public infrastructure, to accelerate mainstream transition.

Sam Clarke: "We absolutely need the government to weigh in on this one, but not at the end that's being discussed here... The cost is at the other end. It's the complexity that we all have to go through... the convoluted grid connections and paperwork at the front end which causes millions of pounds worth of cost is where it starts... If we can get more efficient in the way we get energy to the right places, that will bring the price down."
