THE ONE BILLION POUND BLUEPRINT FOR ELECTRIC FLEETS
The government has announced a major funding package to help businesses switch to electric vans and trucks. This one billion pound investment aims to lower the cost of new vehicles and improve charging access at depots. Here is a clear breakdown of what this means for your business.
SUPPORT FOR NEW VEHICLES
The government is introducing grants for Zero-Emission Vans and Trucks. These replace the previous plug-in schemes and provide direct discounts at the point of purchase.
- Heavy Trucks: Businesses can save up to £81,000 on the heaviest electric trucks. This grant covers up to forty per cent of the purchase price.
- Electric Vans: The existing support continues with discounts of up to £5,000 for new electric vans.
These measures are designed to make electric commercial vehicles more affordable and reduce the impact of changing fuel prices.
THE DEPOT CHARGING SCHEME
Access to reliable charging is often a barrier for fleet operators. To solve this, a new £170m fund called the Depot Charging Scheme has been launched.
- Installation Costs: Businesses and public authorities can claim up to 70 per cent of the cost to install charging points.
- Funding Limits: Each applicant can receive up to £1m in support.
- Eligible Vehicles: This funding covers infrastructure for vans, coaches and heavy goods vehicles.
WHY THIS MATTERS
This investment provides a clear roadmap for the future of transport. By supporting both the vehicles and the charging infrastructure, the government is helping businesses build more resilient fleets. It also helps protect companies from the uncertainty of global oil markets.
If you are planning to update your fleet, these grants offer a significant opportunity to reduce your initial costs and secure your long term energy needs.
